Local Area Guide: Things to do / Activities / Attractions
Titanic Pigeon Forge
Anyone
who has watched the movie "Titanic" more than once will want to visit
Pigeon Forge Tennessee where the Titanic has been recreated in all the
sophistication and grand style of the original ship.
Upon boarding the Titanic Museum you receive a boarding pass that was
issued to a passenger onboard the Titanic during its infamous voyage. As
you explore the museum your passenger's story will begin to unfold.
Each exhibit has a unique detail directly related to your passengers
experiences while onboard the ship. Your 2 hours self-guided tour of the
museum ends in the Memorial Room where you will find a complete list of
those who sailed with the original ship and discover the fate of your
ticketed passenger.
Celebrate the lives of the passengers by exploring over 300 personal
and private artifacts of which most are on view for the first time ever.
These artifacts are valued at just under 5 million dollars but the true
value of these items lie in the hope and respect of the people who died
in this tragedy.
Make a grand entrance, just as the guests on the original titanic did,
by floating down the oak carved staircase which was recreated from the
original plans designed by Harland & Wolff. The breathtaking glass
dome highlights the polished oak wall paneling and the intricate
ironwork railing is complete with the original scrollwork.
If
this is not awe inspiring enough, you can be blown away by the
interactive activities and exact replicas available all over the ship.
You can shovel coal into the roaring burning furnace which powered the
ships massive engines or climb into a life size lifeboat where you can
hear stories of the passengers from lifeboat number 4. A favorite
activity is to send an SOS from the radio room which is recreated
completely with the original radio equipment, ear phones, gauges and
gadgets needed to transmit signals across the ocean.
On the deck, you can stand on the ship's bridge which is the heart and
soul of the Titanic Cruise ship, to hear the commands the Captain issued
on that fateful night. But best of all, you can experience the actual
and precise angles of the deck as the ship slowly tilted into the water
and you can feel the ice cold 28 degree water that the passengers
endured as the magnificent ship sank to the bottom of the ocean.

to gather resources and collect his family. Unfortunately, a malaria
epidemic put a hold in his plans, and Ogel died in 1803 before he was
able to return. Martha Ogle, the widow of William Ogle, moved to
Virginia after his death. However, in 1806 she returned with her
brother, Peter Huskey, and built the cabin William didn't have the
chance to build. That cabin still stands today, near the center of the
city, presenting a great tourist attraction, and it's probably the main
reason why cabin rentals in the area are very popular.

Pigeon Forge is situated just five miles away from the GreatSmoky
Mountains National Park in Sevier County, Tennessee. It lies in a narrow

Sevierville and Gatlinburg. Surrounding Pigeon Forge is Shields Mountain
in the east, Pine Mountain in the west and Cove Mountain to the south.
The little gorge between Shields Mountain and Cove Mountain cut by the
river represents the connecting path to Gatlinburg.
The
name Pigeon Forge comes from the Little Pigeon River, which was named
after passenger pigeons that were so numerous in the area they darkened
the sky as they flew into the valley, The second part of the name came
from the iron forge built by Isaac Love in 1817, on a site near today's
Old Mill.
